The Burst Leak Test requires filling a product slowly through a flow valve. After the burst, the pressure rapidly drops to near zero. The tester captures the pressure immediately before the product ruptures/opens to atmosphere. The burst mode is useful for testing pop-off valves, package seals or devices that open to atmosphere after reaching a certain pressure.
The product is attached to the leak tester test port and the test is started. Valve V1 could be opened to quickly get to the start pressure of the burst range. Alternatively, valve V1 is closed. Valves V2 and V3 are opened to slowly pressurize the product through the precision flow control (FC). Pressure in the product is measured by sensor (S1).
The instant the product ruptures or opens, the highest pressure attained is recorded and pressure displayed. At the end of the test, the pressure is released to atmosphere through valve V3 to ensure no pressure remains in the test circuit.
Pressure decay tests are also conducted by opening valve V1 to fill the product. Valves V2 and V3 remain closed during the test. Air is trapped between the product and the sensor at the end of the test. Pressure can be dumped at valve V3.
